Today Zoe was born. Within seconds of taking her first breath, she was enjoying her first meal, as it was a slap and a tickle then straight to mommy's breast. (I'm speaking euphemistically of course, they did not really slap or tickle her). She knew just what to do when she got there, as the instinct to suck is innate. While it is the most natural and instinctive of acts, the logistics of breast feeding, we were soon to find out, are not necessarily that easy to navigate. But more on that later.
The above photo was taken moments later after she had been cleaned and swaddled. I can only imagine what is going through her mind at this moment, having just survived the ordeal of a lifetime and now having so many new things to see, hear and process, not to mention taste!
